Veterinary care for dogs and cats in Leawood, Kansas
Small by choice. Calm by design.
Ironhorse Veterinary Care is a two doctor practice built around one idea: your pet gets better care when nobody's rushing. Quiet rooms, unhurried appointments, and the same familiar faces every visit.
Two doctors who knew there was a different way.
Dr. Blake Dickerson and Dr. Trent Eddy each spent about a decade in busy, high volume veterinary clinics before they opened Ironhorse together in 2015. They'd both landed on the same conviction: when the lobby's loud and the schedule's packed, humans and pets both suffer.
Ironhorse is the practice they wanted to work in: a small team, longer appointments, and exam rooms kept calm and quiet. Our medicine is grounded in current evidence, alongside the time to actually talk with you. It's how you get a vet who knows your pet, and takes the time to know you, too.
It's also why so many of our clients have stayed since the year we opened. Year after year, you have a family vet who knows your pet's whole story, and who's still here when you need them.
What a calmer veterinary visit actually feels like.
A quiet lobby with short waits.
We schedule with room to breathe, so fewer animals coming and going means a calmer space from the moment you arrive.
Separate space for dogs and cats.
Dogs and cats get their own exam rooms, a small thing that helps reduce stress, especially for cats.
Time to actually talk.
Your appointment isn't run on a stopwatch. We leave room to answer questions, walk through options, and send you home with a plan you understand.
Put it together, and a lower stress visit isn't only kinder to your pet—it's better medicine. A calm pet gives us a more accurate read on their health since fear can hide the very things we're checking for. The time to talk means you leave understanding it, too.
Care for your dog or cat, through every stage.
Ironhorse is a general veterinary practice, which means most of what your dog or cat needs over a lifetime happens right here, with the same team that knows them.

Ironhorse Veterinary Care is a low-stress practice by design. We manage our schedule so the lobby in our Leawood office stays quiet and you rarely wait long. Dogs and cats have separate exam rooms. Calming touches like pheromones, soft music, and treats are part of every visit, and we let your pet settle and choose where they're comfortable instead of forcing the pace.
Yes. Ironhorse cares for dogs and cats, with separate exam rooms for each so both feel more at ease.
Almost always. With two doctors and a team of four, you and your pet get to know your care team, and they get to know you. That continuity means we remember your pet's history and how they like to be handled.
Yes. The whole practice at Ironhorse is built to lower the stress of a visit, from the quiet lobby and short waits to separate dog and cat rooms and an unhurried pace. If you know your pet has certain triggers or stressors, let us know when you schedule so we can work to make the visit easier.
